Noticing what you need and giving yourself permission to respond.

THE HELPFUL HABIT IS

WHY WE EXIST

The Helpful Habit is a space for people who want full lives without believing they have to run themselves into the ground to have them.

We believe rest belongs in the middle of life, not just at the end of a hard week, a big project, or a season of burnout.

And rest is bigger than sleep.

Our Philosophy

The Helpful Habit started with a different question: What if rest was part of how we lived in the first place?

Our thinking is deeply influenced by the work of Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith, a Black woman, physician, researcher, and author of Sacred Rest. Dr. Dalton-Smith's work helped expand the conversation about rest beyond sleep. Her Seven Types of Rest Framework™ identifies physical, mental, emotional, social, sensory, creative, and spiritual rest, recognizing that we can be tired in ways that sleep alone cannot restore.

That idea changed the way I thought about rest.

We’re interested in the small habits, meaningful rituals, beautiful experiences, and people that bring us back to ourselves.

Not so we can rest long enough to become productive again.

Simply because being well enough to enjoy your life matters.

Welcome to The Helpful Habit. A rest ethic that heals.

Rest

is a practice, not a reward.

does not have to be earned.

can be active.
